What is a PNM?
- PNM stands for potential new member, it’s just what we call people going through our recruitment process.
Do I have to go to every recruitment event?
- Not exactly. The recruitment events are a time that sisters and other PNMs can get to know you! The more events you go to, the more sisters get to know you and the more you can discover if DPE is right for you. However, we understand that not everyone can go to every event and don’t penalize PNM’s for not attending every event. However, PNMs must attend AT LEAST 2 recruitment events to be eligible to apply!
What is the selection process like?
- The selection process consists of attending one info session and two recruitment events, submitting an application, and sitting for a quick interview. You will receive an email from the recruitment team at each stage with instructions on how to proceed.
What is a Delta?
- A Delta is what we call a new sister who has not been inducted yet. Once you are selected to join DPE, you become a Delta and go through a process into becoming an inducted sister. The process typically takes 8 weeks and is structured with weekly meetings and tasks. Think of it as your time to pledge to the sorority.
How does DPE differ from other sororities on campus?
- DPE is the only professional foreign service sorority. This means that we not only have the bond and joy of sisterhood, but we also have professional events and tools to help sisters succeed professionally. We also have passion for knowing more about the world and keeping up with social issues. Additionally, we are not part of Georgetown’s Panhellenic sororities. However, we do collaborate with other Greek and student organizations on campus.
How does DPE support sisters in STEM?
- We have a lot of sisters in STEM and we have an extensive alumni network in this field. In the past we have done panels and discussions centered around STEM and are going to implement more events this semester. If you are a PNM interested in talking to a current sister in STEM, reach out and we can help you set up a coffee chat!
What are the dues and is there financial support available?
- Dues start at $75 per semester, and are reduced by $5 for each semester a sister is an active member. However, dues should not be a barrier to anyone and our treasurer is willing to accommodate needs by reducing dues or creating a personalized payment plan!
How will I get to meet other sisters and form connections?
- We have lots of different ways to meet sisters: whether at bonding nights, through our sister snail mail chain, or different professional development activities. There’s no shortage of ways to meet sisters and during the delta process you at least meet all of our active sisters.
What is the DPE alumnae network and how does it work?
- Because our sisterhood has been around at Georgetown since 1973, our alumni are active and numerous! We have tons of events to connect with them and have a directory to make them (and their careers/connections) available to sisters.
I’m a transfer student, can I join DPE if I’ve already been initiated into a Panhellenic sorority?
- Yes! We have many sisters who are transfers (including our current president)!
What is the time commitment for DPE?
- There are required weekly meetings for deltas + other requirements. After you are inducted, DPE is truly what you make of it. Sisters are encouraged to come to meetings and events but are not required. If they feel they can’t commit for a semester, sisters have the option to go inactive until they feel ready to jump back in.
I’m a junior, can I join DPE?
- Yes, we have plenty of sisters that joined their junior year!
Does DPE haze new members?
- NO. We stand against hazing and having nothing in our recruitment process that requires PNM’s or Deltas to do anything they are uncomfortable with.
What are the different committees and what do they do?
Committees are ways for sisters who are not on the board or cabinet to get involved with planning events and opportunities for sisters!
- Social
- Helps the Social and Deputy Social Chair plan fun events for sisters!
- Spirit
- Helps the Spirit Chair plan fun events for sisters!
- Recruitment
- Helps the delta mom and recruitment chair run recruitment events!
What does mentorship and service look like in DPE?
- Each sister receives a big who acts as a mentor throughout their time in DPE. We also have extensive professional and alumnae relations resources. Sisters will not hesitate to help you out with proofreading applications, doing mock interviews, or any other professional or academic need you might have.
What kind of professional opportunities does DPE provide?
- We host resume workshops, alumni panels, networking nights, and skill-building sessions (like LinkedIn reviews or public speaking). Our alumni network is one of our strongest assets, and they love supporting current sisters.
