FAQ!

Do I have to be in the SFS to join DPE?

  • No, we have sisters from all four schools!

Do I have to be interested in a career in foreign service career to join DPE?

  • Nope! Our sisters are interested in a variety of career fields and we have a broad alumni network in multitudes of different professions.

DPE is listed as a professional sorority, are there social aspects as well?

  • Yes! Our Social and Spirit Chairs plans many events throughout the semester, including formals, movie nights, and other fun bonding events. This semester we still have lots of fun virtual events up our sleeve.

What is a PNM?

  • PNM stands for potential new member, it’s just what we call ladies going through our recruitment process.

Do I have to go to every recruitment event?

  • Not exactly. The recruitment events are a time that sisters and other pnms can get to know you! The more events you go to, the more sisters get to know you and the more you can discover if DPE is right for you. However, we understand that not everyone can go to every event and don’t penalize pnms for not attending every event.

What is the selection process like?

  • The selection process consists of attending a few recruitment events, submitting an application, and sitting for a quick interview. You will receive an email from the recruitment team at each stage with instructions on how to proceed.

What is a Delta?

  • A delta is what we call a new sister who has not been inducted yet. Once you are selected to join DPE, you become a delta and go through a process into becoming an inducted sister. The process typically takes 8 weeks and is structured with weekly meetings and tasks.

How does DPE differ from other sororities on campus?

  • DPE is the only professional foreign service sorority. This means that we not only have the bond and joy of sisterhood, but we also have professional events and tools to help sisters succeed professionally. We also have passion for knowing more about the world and keeping up with social issues.

How does DPE support sisters in STEM?

  • We have a lot of sisters in STEM and we have an extensive alumni network in this field. In the past we have done panels and discussions centered around STEM and are going to implement more events this semester.

What are the dues and is there financial support available?

  • Typically dues are $75 per semester, however, dues should not be a barrier to anyone and our treasurer is willing to accommodate needs by reducing dues or creating a personalized payment plan!

How will Georgetown being online this semester affect my DPE experience?

  • DPE will still have social events and other events over zoom as well. Our committees will be working hard to create interest groups and ways to keep sisters connected.

How will I get to meet other sisters and form connections?

  • We have lots of different ways to meet sisters: whether at bonding nights, through our sister snail mail chain, or different professional development activities. There’s no shortage of ways to meet sisters and during the delta process you at least meet all of our active sisters.

What is the DPE alumnae network and how does it work?

  • Because our sisterhood has been around at Georgetown since 1973, our alumni are active and numerous! We have tons of events to connect with them and have a directory to make them (and their careers/connections) available to sisters.

I’m a transfer student, can I  join DPE if I’ve already been initiated into a Panhellenic sorority?

  • Yes! We have many sisters who are transfers!

What is the time commitment for DPE?

  • There are required weekly meetings for deltas + other requirements. After you are inducted, DPE is truly what you make of it. Sisters are encouraged to come to meetings and events but are not required. If they feel they can’t commit for a semester, sisters have the option to go inactive until they feel ready to jump back in.

I’m a junior, can I join DPE?

  • Yes we have plenty of sisters that joined their junior year!

Does DPE haze new members?

  • NO. We stand against hazing and having nothing in our recruitment process that requires pnms or deltas to do anything they are uncomfortable with.

What are the different committees and what do they do?
